Frequently Asked Questions

Conservatory skills adapted for adult learners

What makes this different from a traditional piano lesson?

This is an elite, conservatory level program modified to give adults access to High Art outcomes. For the same amount of time and effort on your part, you will accomplish more, know more, do more.

My father was a Mozartian level musical mind, from a young age I came up through the elite concert pianist training programs, I maintained a successful performance career & spent decades training incredible professional musicians. My outcomes are proven, consistent over years & stand through hundreds of students.   Talent is not discovered, it is strategically developed over time using the exercises, techniques, & secrets from the great minds carefully guarded & passed on master to student.

Through a friend, I was encouraged to give adults access to this level of training - so I did. If you are going to spend your hard earned leisure time & money on learning to play piano - you might as well get professional results & play beyond your own wildest dreams.

Will you be able to see my hands if i do a lesson over video chat?

Yes. The differences on my end between Video Chat & On Location lessons are

1. I Push "Start" versus Open the Door to begin your lesson.

2. During Video Chat I am able to check bench height & technique on the instrument you practice on.

3. I play significantly more examples for you during a Video Chat lesson because I am in front of my own piano.

Some students always Video Chat. Others Video Chat when they travel and come for On Location lessons when they are in town. Your choice.

Can i progress through the program consistently if I travel frequently or am not in-town year round?

Yes! Most of the students enrolled in this program live here part time or travel frequently throughout the year.

We Prioritize your Convenience when scheduling. In instances where you're unavailable for a week or two, we'll arrange extra lessons before and/or after your travel.

Most students, also, alternate between In-Studio lessons when In Town & Video Chat lessons when at Summer Homes for extended periods of time.

This ensures Seamless Completion of each Unit's Content & Skills so you complete each Level of Study on Time.

What inspired you to turn to teaching adults?

Mike Rothery, an Executive nearing Retirement, wanted to learn to "play piano like a professional" when he retired. I had a very successful professional training program at the time, and he convinced me to allow him to join the program as a para-professional.

10 years later, Mike was retired & playing piano professionally for fun with bands all over town.

Mike encouraged me to adapt my program for adults who wanted to train at a professional level. So I did - and found an incredible opportunity for creativity & collaboration I never could have imagined!

FAQ image

Does your program require more practice time than a traditional program?

No - the great High Art master techniques, actually, greatly reduce required practice time because better techniques get better results.

An hour of practice a few days a week is plenty to achieve profound results.

But, inevitably, you will play more than you anticipate because you will have so much you are able to do at the piano - don’t be surprised if you end up wanting to play all day!

Why are your prices higher than average?

Because this is not an average lesson, program, curriculum, or outcome. For the same amount of effort on your part, you will become a wildly better musician than the average person who took an average lesson.

Pricing for private High Art lessons with a master are based on proven student outcomes. We elite musicians always train with upper echelon teachers who, often, start around $200 an hour or more.

Most teachers are not training at that level and prices reflect that. Top tier teachers have always been priced accordingly - and it is what I myself pay when I go for continued coaching.

Is there a contract or commitment to make?

No - I am an Artist & work solely on inspiration & connection. You work through the curriculum mastering clearly communicated skills one level at a time.

If at any point the relationship is no longer bringing happiness to either the teacher or the student, lessons will cease and the slot will be filled with a wait list student.

This disconnect does happen, but is highly unusual. Students often stay 10-15 years progressing happily.

I was a student of Ashley's for about 3 years. Ashley is a phenomenal mentor and teacher. She provides the most thorough musical education you can get anywhere. She really knows how to bring out her students talents and capabilities. The experience gained from our monthly performances has served me in so many areas in my life. She is the only person I would ever recommend to someone who is serious about learning music.
